Students are responsible for ensuring that all work submitted is authentic, with the work or ideas of others fully and correctly acknowledged. If you quote or base your ideas on another person’s work, you must cite the source used. Students are expected to review their work carefully to ensure they have not committed plagiarism.
All references should be acknowledged- this applies to all data, pictures, diagrams, illustrations, films, statistics, maps etc.
Gilmore Girls College uses the Harvard author-date style of referencing.
There are two parts to referencing:
1. In- text citation: if quoting directly from a source cite author/s name and page number directly after the quote in the body of your work eg. (Smith &Williams p5)
2. A complete list of all references used on a seperate page is required - Bibliography
Bibliography Layout
A Bibiliography is a list of all the resources you used to complete your project.
It is submitted on a separate piece of paper – arranged alphabetically by author’s surname or by title if the author is unknown.
The Harvard citation style can vary in minor features such as punctuation, capitalisation, abbreviation and the use of italics. Whatever your preference be consistent in your approach eg. you may underline the Title or type it in italics - you can use commas, or full stops.
Students are encouraged to use online citation generators to ensure correct formatting of bibliographies:
